Brief Information

  • Today our university continues education, training and research activities with 11 faculties, 6 High Schools, 1 State Conservatory, 3 Institutes, 12 Research Centres, 12 Research Units, 19 Vocational Schools and 57 487 students.
  • Our university is the first in Turkey to have been opened 4 years after the beginning of the construction and planned to be completed in 8 years.
  • The devices such as heating, irrigation and ventilation are under automation and they can be remote controlled outside campus.
  • Umuttepe Campus has an automatic garden irrigation system.
  • We are the first in Turkey to have a filtration plant.
  • Our university has one of the most modern congress and culture centre in Turkey.
  • An area of 800 decares of Umuttepe Campus is in the protected area and soon there will be archeological excavations in that area (Total area of Umuttepe Campus is 6500 decares. No construction will be made in the area protected).
  • The hospital of the Faculty of Medicine has been built earthquake-resistant and 250 seismic isolators and 2500 dampers have been used in the building.
  • We are the first in Turkey to have stair lifts for our disabled students in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
  • The most modern and well-equipped dormitories of Credit and Dormitory Institution in Turkey are on Umuttepe Campus.
  • Works of arts on Umuttepe Campus have been done for International Competitions by the Department of Sculpturing of the Faculty of Fine Arts.
  • The Atatürk Monument on Umuttepe Campus has been planned by Assistant Prof. Nevzat Atalay, Academician of the Faculty of Fine Arts, and completed in 6 months. In addition, decoration works have been continued by the same faculty.
  • Barbaros Maritime School has been established in Karamürsel. So that the number of schools of KOU in Karamürsel has increased to four.
  • Guesthouse arrangements have been continuing on An?tpark and Umuttepe Campus for Erasmus students and academic staff.
